Job Description

Equans Offshore Wind in Hoboken is looking for a Medium Voltage and High Voltage (MV/HV) Engineer.

In this role you are involved in preliminary studies, conceptual & detailed design and procurement support for the MV & HV systems related to offshore substations.

You act as a subject matter expert for the project engineering team, including design and interconnection of MV/HV systems and components.

 

Details of the job:

  • you have or acquire expert knowledge with reference to:
    • MV/HV system design (one line, overall and detailed functionalities)
    • power transformers, distribution transformers, auxiliary transformers, earthing transformers an reactors
    • MV/HV gas insulated switchgear
    • MV/HV cables
    • MV/HV components such as circuit breakers, switches, insulators, surge arresters, current & voltage transformers
    • protection concept for MV/HV & LV systems, interfaces, interlocks
  • system studies:
    • design electrical single line diagram
    • dimensioning of the MV/HV components
    • review the electrical drawings and studies related to MV/HV design
    • perform selectivity studies, electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC) studies
    • write technical specifications, tender documents, comparison reports, test- and commissioning documents
  • secure project objectives:
    • ensuring timely and complete delivery of assigned scope of work
    • collect the required input data for calculation and design studies
    • support the system engineers on the projects
  • continuous improvement:
    • contribute to the organization by defining procedures, tools and systems
    • share your knowledge with the team
  • internal contacts: team members and other divisions within Equans
  • external contacts: client, suppliers, subcontractors

 

What do you need to be successful in this function?

  • university degree, master of science in engineering (electrical/electromechanical)
  • relevant experience in high voltage engineering
  • preferably knowledge of and experience in the offshore wind industry
  • preferably knowledge of and experience in grid operations
  • knowledge of and experience in the following specific systems is required:
    • MV and HV GIS
    • power transformers
    • auxiliary/earthing transformers
    • shunt reactors
    • MV/HV cables
  • you are able to structure and prioritize your own work
  • you are able to work under a set time frame
  • you have good analytical skills
  • you have excellent communication skills - written communication is one of your strong points
  • you are able to manage good relationships with the project management team, the client and our partners while monitoring Equans’ interests
  • you have professional proficiency of English, knowledge of Dutch is an added value
